Attempted Bar Heist Fails: Grafton Man Charged with Felony Robbery

FOREST RIVER, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – A Grafton, North Dakota man is facing serious criminal charges after a botched robbery attempt at a bar in Forest River. According to court documents, on July 14th at 12:28 a.m., a Walsh County Deputy responded to a report of a robbery and fight at the bar.

Witnesses stated that Matthew Robert Clapp, who appeared to be intoxicated, allegedly went behind the bar and grabbed an envelope containing over $1,200. When one witness tried to stop him, another blocked the door and locked the bar. Clapp reportedly threatened one of the witnesses, saying, “Do you want to be punched in the face?” before swinging and missing. He then sat down on a bar stool until the deputy arrived and arrested him.

Clapp is now charged with felony robbery and two counts of disorderly conduct.
