Aneta Standoff Underway in Nelson County
ANETA, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) – Law enforcement responded to an apparent standoff in Aneta, North Dakota, on Saturday afternoon. The small Nelson County town saw a large police presence near a residence believed to be occupied by a single man. According to local residents, the man lives alone, and authorities have been on the scene for several hours.
As of Saturday evening, the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed deputies were responding to an ongoing situation in Aneta. Other law enforcement agencies were reportedly assisting at the scene. However, officials have not yet released details about the nature of the standoff or any possible injuries.
Residents were asked to stay clear of the area while officers worked to resolve the situation safely. Eyewitness photos provided to TRF News showed patrol vehicles blocking nearby streets. The situation appeared calm, but deputies remained stationed near the residence.
Authorities have not disclosed whether negotiations were taking place or if the man inside was armed. As of late afternoon, no evacuations had been reported in the surrounding area. Neighbors told reporters the man has lived in the community for several years and generally keeps to himself.
