Andrew James Klemetsrud Sentenced for Gross Misdemeanor DWI

Andrew James Klemetsrud, 22, was sentenced in Becker County District Court for gross misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. The court records show that on July 27 at approximately 3:23 a.m., the Becker County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen vehicle from the Morningside Motel.

The owner reported that Klemetsrud had taken her silver 2002 Buick LeSabre without permission about 25 minutes earlier. The officer attempted to pull over the car, but Klemetsrud sped up and reached speeds of approximately 80 mph in a 55 mph zone.

After driving for around one mile, the vehicle pulled over to the side of the road. The officer spoke with Klemetsrud and detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. When asked why he didn’t stop earlier, Klemetsrud replied that “I don’t know officer — you caught me.”

A breath sample was taken at 4:14 a.m. at the Becker County Jail, which showed a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) result of .20, more than twice the legal limit.

The court records also show that Klemetsrud’s driving status had been suspended. On October 7, District Judge Gretchen Thilmony sentenced him to:

  • 180 days in jail with 152 days stayed for four years and credit for 28 days served
  • A fine of $750 plus $440 in court fees
  • Probation requirements:
    • Not to drink or use illegal drugs
    • Attend a MADD Impact Panel within four months of sentencing
    • Complete a comprehensive assessment and follow the recommendations

Klemetsrud was placed on unsupervised probation for four years.
