After Adam Johnson’s tragic death last month, Matt Petgrave has been arrested for manslaughter.

During a match against Sheffield Steelers on October 28, a skate slashed the 29-year-old American ice hockey star’s throat, causing a fatal neck injury.

As Johnson lay bleeding on the ice at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena, shielded by fellow players, 8,000 fans watched in horror as attempts were made to save his life. He later died of his injuries.

Last week, a coroner’s inquest was opened into Johnson’s death and adjourned until January 2024.

According to South Yorkshire Police, Matt Petgrave remains in custody following his arrest on Tuesday.
