Alice L. Carpenter – Obituary

Alice L. Carpenter, 92, Wheat Ridge Colorado, died Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Westlake Care Community.

Alice Lorraine Carpenter was born in Cavalier County, North Dakota on May 24, 1931, to Albert and Mable (Dennett) Nelson. She attended school at Hannah, North Dakota and graduated in May 1949. Alice Nelson and Charles Carpenter were united in marriage on June 12, 1949, at Langdon, North Dakota. They resided in numerous communities in North Dakota and Minnesota. They moved back to Munich, North Dakota following Charles’s retirement in 1984. They moved to Grand Forks in 2002. Alice moved to Wheat Ridge, Colorado to be with family in 2022.

She enjoyed baking (we enjoyed her Christmas goodies, chocolate cake, caramel rolls, as well as her family loved potato salad), quilting, watching UND hockey and MN Twins games, and reading. She very much enjoyed getting to spend time with her great-grandchildren. Alice was a 72-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by sons; Douglas (Cindy) Carpenter, Wheat Ridge, Colorado, Clayton (Melody) Carpenter, Cave Creek, Arizona; grandchildren, Anna (Nick) Freeman, Arvada, Colorado, Sara (Devon) Brady, Arvada, Colorado, Benjamin Carpenter, Maple Grove, Minnesota, Dakota Carpenter, Artem Carpenter, Andrey Carpenter all of Cave Creek, Arizona; great-grandchildren, Andrew Freeman, Amelia Freeman and Charlie Brady; sister Gaylene (Lee) Switzer, New Brighton, Minnesota; brother Ron Nelson, Temple, Texas; sister-in-law Shirley Peterson, Mayville, North Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her parents Mable and Albert, sister Phyllis and great-grandson Everett.

The family wishes to extend their special thanks and appreciation to Westlake Care Community and Intermountain Health Hospice.

Join us as we come together to remember the life of Alice Carpenter at her funeral service on July 25th at 1:30 pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church 1710 Cherry Street Grand Forks ND. The interment will follow at Memorial Park South Cemetery. A gathering for conversation, coffee and cookies will be held at the Church immediately following the interment.
