Alfred L. Borah Jr. – Obituary

Alfred L. Borah Jr., age 93, resident of Aneta, ND, died Thursday, August 29, 2024 at the Northwood Deaconess Health Center in Northwood, ND.

Alfred Lloyd Borah Jr. was born August 13, 1931 in Detroit Lakes, MN, the son of Alfred Sr. and Isabel (Morrison) Borah. He grew up at Sheyenne, ND, where the family had a diversified farm, including a dairy. In 1952 he left the farm and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps for 3 years. His service included 18 months in Korea, where he was a tank commander. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned home and attended college. Alfred met his wife to be, Winifred Vining, on June 1, 1955, and they were married on June 1, 1956. They were happily married for 66 years and 6 days. After graduating from VCSU and NDSU, he began teaching in 1959 in North Dakota public schools. He was a high school Principal for 7 years in Sherwood, ND, Superintendent for 15 years in Aneta, ND, 6 years in Kensal, ND, and 6 years in Rogers/Dazey, ND (North Central of Barnes). His father and he were both teachers, music directors, and superintendents. Al and Winnie both retired in 1993. They retired in Aneta and have lived there to the present. They spent their first 20 years of retirement wintering in Texas and Arizona. Their family was always a high priority. Their family’s accomplishments were a big part of their fulfillment. He enjoyed flying his RC airplanes, Ham radio, and recreational construction projects.

Alfred is survived by 2 children, Wallace (Lana Fuglem) Borah and Shareen (Merlin) Eberhardt; 6 grandchildren, Don Al Eberhardt, Ryan Eberhardt, Shanna Briggs, Brandi Borah, Kurt Borah, and Kyle Borah; 12 great grandchildren, Peyton, Silas, Hunter, Hudson, Sydney, Jaden, Asher & Selah Briggs, Logan, Zachary, Elijah & Olivia Eberhardt; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie; grandson, Blake Borah; daughter-in-law, Lori Borah; and 2 sisters, Clarice Boden and Isadora Zieman.

The Memorial Service for Alfred will be held at Sundahl Lutheran church of Aneta, ND, on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Silent Hill Cemetery, rural Aneta. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service.
