Aitkin County ( trfnews.i234.me ) – An Aitkin County man is facing multiple charges, including felony domestic assault by strangulation, after deputies say he attacked a woman during a violent domestic dispute on July 11, 2025, in Hazelton Township.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Aitkin County District Court, Fred Allen Cobb Jr., 60, was arrested following a series of 911 calls in which the victim could be heard pleading for help and saying, “Don’t hurt me,” before the calls were disconnected multiple times.
Deputies Matthew Yunker and Ronald Myers responded to the residence on Pike Avenue around 9:49 p.m. After arriving, they located Cobb sitting at a dining room table and the victim in a nearby entryway, reportedly hysterical and alleging that Cobb had attempted to kill her.
Investigators say the victim told deputies Cobb threw a picture frame at her, then used a pillow to cover her face, pinched her nose, and pressed down, making it difficult for her to breathe. She also alleged Cobb grabbed her phone, smashed it, and threw it into Mille Lacs Lake to prevent her from calling for help.
The complaint states the victim managed to lock herself in a basement bedroom and call 911 on a house phone before Cobb allegedly broke down the door and continued yelling at her. Deputies confirmed physical evidence at the scene, including a broken picture frame and a damaged bedroom door.
Cobb was taken into custody and transported to the Aitkin County Jail. He is charged with:
-
Felony Domestic Assault by Strangulation
-
Gross Misdemeanor Interference with a 911 Call
-
Misdemeanor Domestic Assault – Fear
-
Misdemeanor Domestic Assault – Bodily Harm
