Access to Upper Red Lake in Minnesota is now restricted to all vehicles.

UPPER RED LAKE, MN (trfnews.i234.me) The Beltrami County Sheriff has closed Upper Red Lake to all vehicles, effective at sunset this Saturday, December 30, 2023 until further notice.
a vehicle restriction goes into place on upper Red Lake Minnesota at sunset on this Saturday this in from the Beltrami County Sheriff Jason rigs due to continued incidents of fishermen becoming stranded on and breaking through the ice on upper Red Lake effective Sunset December 30th uh this Saturday upper Red Lake in the area under the jurisdiction of Beltrami County will have restricted access per Minnesota statute uh 86b 106 vehicles are barred from tra traversing upper Red Lake until the sheriff resins this order snowmobiles allterrain vehicles and all motorized vehicles are prohibited from going on the ice a violation of this order is a misdemeanor under Minnesota statute if convicted fines penalties and restitution may be sought by Bel tramy County the Beltrami County Sheriff’s office has been in contact with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety uh DNR and director of Natural Resources enforcement division Colonel Rod Smith regarding this situation County officials will monitor the ice conditions and when practical and prudent the sheriff will lift this restriction after several days of rain and above freezing temperatures ice conditions have deteriorated area lakes have very inconsistent ice conditions and Extreme Caution should be employed if you choose to venture on area lakes check the ice thickness frequently do not drive vehicles on the ice and check with area resorts and bait shops regarding ice conditions before going out on the ice again that’s from belamy County Sheriff Jason rigs at sunset on this Saturday no traffic uh Vehicles no traffic on the upper Red Lake in Minnesota I’m Neil Berg reporting for I Newsom TV

  2. Well unfortunately people have created the situation to be required, it is a challenging situation to have so many rescuers at risk so frequently. One would think that there shouldn't be requirements like this, but I support it, so the rescuers don't have to keep risking their lives to save these folks so often. I am not saying they shouldn't be saved, but at the frequency this has happened, people, planes, and gear pretty much every day for several days, I think they all need a time out. Take a break until it gets colder and safer
