Abercrombie — An Abercrombie, North Dakota woman is facing two felony charges after an incident in Fargo.

Tara Marie Woeller, of Abercrombie, is charged with two felony counts of simple assault on a peace officer.

Police say the call came in at 12:59 a.m. on Dec. 27. Officers responded to the 7-Eleven on North Pacific Avenue for a reported disturbance.

According to the report, officers found Woeller in an alley near the store. Police say her speech was slurred. They said she struggled to hold a clear talk.

Officers say Woeller told them she was cold. She also said she did not want to be at that location.

The report says an officer offered to let her sit in a patrol vehicle to warm up. Police say the officer also tried to reach her friends.

Police say Woeller became upset. The report states that she made comments suggesting she needed help. Officers offered an ambulance due to suspected heavy intoxication.

Police say Woeller initially agreed to be checked by medical staff. Officers requested an ambulance because of her condition and the cold weather.

Police Say Behavior Changed After Ambulance Arrived

Officers report Woeller sat in the squad car and was calm for a short time. Police say she then appeared confused and wanted to leave.

The report says she was told she could leave. Police also said the ambulance was already on the way.

When the ambulance arrived, police say Woeller would not cooperate with the evaluation. The report says she refused to work with ambulance staff.

Police say they then checked with a jail detox option to confirm it could accept her.

According to the report, officers told medical staff they could leave. Police say an officer then saw Woeller kicking the squad car windows.

Police say an officer opened the door and told her to stop. The report says she was told she would be taken to jail detox.

Two Felony Charges Filed

Police say Woeller then began throwing punches and kicking. The report says one officer was kicked twice in the head and face area.

Police also say a second officer was kicked during the struggle.

Woeller was arrested and placed in handcuffs, according to the report. Police say she was secured in the back of the squad car.

The two felony charges allege assault on peace officers. Court records will show her next hearing date.

Criminal charges are accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
