Darryl Lynn Boutain, 52, of Roseau, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at LifeCare Medical Center in Roseau, MN surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 11, 1972, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, Darryl was the son of Lawrence Leroy Boutain and Evelyn Theresa (Currie) Boutain.
Darryl attended Goodridge Public School and later dedicated his career to BB Diversified Services Ltd and as a machine and component assembly for Polaris. In his earlier years, Darryl worked various places including Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls, Nordic Fiberglass in Warren, and Norfarm Seeds in Roseau.
Known for his hardworking nature and commitment to his craft, he made a lasting impact in his field.
Outside of work, Darryl found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved fishing, camping, hosting bonfires, grilling and hanging out in the garage, and spending cherished moments with his family. He could make a mean crockpot dish and then go rebuild a motor; he was an awesome mechanic. He was an avid animal lover. Darryl and Melanie enjoyed watching the Packers/Viking games; the only Packers fans in the house were Darryl and the cats (not by choice). His playful spirit and knack for pranks brought laughter and warmth to those around him.
Darryl is survived by his beloved wife, Melanie (Kotrba) Boutain; their children, Devin (Rachel) Adamski, Crystal (Osiel) Adamski, and Cassi (Devan) Adamski; and grandchildren Raya Adamski, Shelby Adamski, Miles Rasmussen, Jace Adamski, Hudsen Olson, and Emmett Olson. He is also survived by his mother, Evelyn Boutain of Thief River Falls; siblings Cherie Stratton of Thief River Falls, MN; Jennie (Sean) Riesen of Dilworth, MN; Rodney (Anissia) Boutain of Goodridge, MN; Darwin (Dena) Boutain of Goodridge, MN; and Diana Nelson of Thief River Falls, MN. Additionally, he leaves behind many in-laws—Marie (Aaron) Hanson of Salo, MN; Desiree Konickson and Bruce Anderson of Goodridge, MN; Tracy (fiancé Tammy Psotka) Kotrba of Thief River Falls, MN; Misty Kotrba of Crookston, MN; father-in-law, John (Sharon) Kotrba of Arizona; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Lawrence Boutain; his brother Randy Currie; his mother-in-law Arlene Kotrba; grandparents, Alex & Sadie Boutain and Josephine & Lawrence Currie.
Darryl’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May his legacy bring comfort to those he leaves behind.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with the service to celebrate Darryl’s life at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at Obit in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Kristin Ostercamp officiating. Burial will follow at Highlanding Cemetery near Goodridge, MN.
