Debra Kay Holmgren, 65, of Thief River Falls, Minnesota, passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at her residence.
The service to celebrate Debra’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 17, 2025 at Obit in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Debra was born on January 16, 1959, to Sherman and Mona (Cutt) trfnews.i234.me. She grew up in Thief River Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School. She pursued her education in accounting in Whitefish, Montana, and later completed her studies upon returning to her hometown.
Debra’s life was marked by resilience and adventure. After moving to North Dakota, she met Donovan Erickson, with whom she had two sons, Aaron and Andrew. Following their divorce in 1985, Debra relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada, where she worked as an independent tile layer, contributing to projects in notable casinos such as the Luxor. Later, she moved to Florida and worked at the Hyatt Regency before returning to Thief River Falls in 1999. There, she held positions at Universal Screenprint and RAM Builders.
In 2001, Debra found her soulmate in Robert Holmgren. The couple married on November 10, 2007, in Coos Bay, Oregon. Together they lived an adventurous life across the United States before settling back in Thief River Falls in 2014 to care for Debra’s father after her mother’s passing. During their travels, Debra held various roles including work at H & R Block and as a campground manager.
Debra found joy in walking along the beach, visiting casinos, scrapbooking, quilting, shopping, and spending time with her seven beloved grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Robert; sons Aaron (Stephanie) Erickson of Middle River, MN and Andrew (Dionne) Erickson of Red Lake, MN; grandchildren David, Christopher, Oliver, Sherman, Amos, Ariel, and Coral; mother-in-law Shirley Breager; aunt Esther trfnews.i234.me; beloved dog, Oreo; and many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and numerous extended family members.
