Naytahwaush Man Arrested for Alleged Assault on Infant Son

NAYTAHWAUSH, MN (trfnews.i234.me)—On January 8, 2025, authorities arrested 35-year-old Derek Croud Sr. of Naytahwaush, Minnesota, on charges of first-degree assault and domestic assault. This action followed an investigation into injuries sustained by his 3-month-old son.

The Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office reported that on December 23, 2024, at approximately 7 p.m., they received information about an infant male who was not breathing and was being transported by ambulance to the Mahnomen Health Center. Upon arrival, medical personnel indicated that the infant’s injuries were consistent with non-accidental trauma, commonly referred to as “shaken baby syndrome.”

The infant is currently hospitalized in stable condition; however, the potential for lasting effects remains undetermined at this time.

The Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, conducted the investigation leading to Croud’s arrest. He is presently in custody, facing charges of first-degree assault and domestic assault.
