MINNEWAUKAN, ND (trfnews.i234.me) We now have more details regarding the resignation of Benson County Sheriff, Ethan Rode. K.L. Glover of the Benson County Farmers Press has shared his story with iNewZ.
We now have more details regarding our initial report of the resignation of Benson County Sheriff Ethan Roodie, who resigned effective on this uh Friday, July 25th at 4:30 p.m. As we reported, his resignation has nothing to do with the criminal charges against Benson County Deputy Travis Carlson. This is a separate uh totally separate matter. In his resignation letter, Sheriff Roodie says, quote, “I am resigning my position as a sheriff of Benson County. Effective at the end of the business day on Friday, July 25th, 2025, I will coordinate with my staff for the return of county property assigned to me. It has been my honor and privilege to serve the citizens of Benson County.” Uh, this from the uh Benson County Farmers Press by Kelly Glover. Uh, quote, “In June of 2023, payments were made to a now former employee of the Benson County Sheriff’s Office for hours that it turned out had not actually been worked. A review of past commission reports in the Farmer’s Press fills in further details. The employee had been paid beginning June 1st, but hadn’t actually started working for the county until sometime later and continued to be employed by Ramsay County until July 4th. At the March 5th, 2024 meeting, Sheriff Roodie explained that the employee was hired when needed and attended K-9 training. The board later investigated whether the overpayment could be recovered from counties, the county’s insurance carrier, but this turned out not to be an option. Roadie offered to have the overpayment deducted from his paycheck, and the commissioners requested a repayment plan. At the May 21st, 2024 meeting, Roadie announced his intention to recant the previous offers offer. That refusal ultimately led to this week’s action,” unquote. Again, that was from the uh Benson County Farmers Press and uh again, as a reported uh Sheriff Rodie has now resigned. I’m Bob Carlson reporting for trfnews.i234.me.
