Diana C. Drees – Obituary

Diana C. Drees, aged 84, of Grand Forks, died Saturday, December 28, 2024, at home surrounded by the love of her family.

Diana Catherine Spidahl was born on April 2, 1940, in Starkweather, North Dakota to Arnold Spidahl and Viola Sorensen. She graduated from Central High School in Grand Forks with the class of 1958; shortly after graduation, she represented her home state with grace serving as Miss North Dakota. On June 20, 1959, she was united in marriage to Donald Leroy Drees. During her working career, she owned Drees Ceramics in Thompson, teaching ceramic classes for over 50 years alongside her friend, Myrna Drees. As a devoted wife and mother, Diana instilled a sense of comfort and nurturing in her home. She ensured that her family was well-fed and cared for, always prioritizing their needs. Diana’s love for travel brought unforgettable trips together and countless moments of happiness; she loved to reminisce and proudly show off their trips together through treasured family photos. Her spirited enthusiasm for hockey and sports was infectious, as she cheered with passion. Diana was a dedicated member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Forks and was involved with the Sons of Norway and Homemakers.

Diana is survived by her sons, Doug (Terry) Drees of St. Paul, MN, and Dean Drees of Grand Forks, N.D.; daughter, Darla (Dan) Schuman of Grand Forks, N.D.; grandchildren, Dylan, Taylor, and Sid Drees, and Danielle Erickson; great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Paige, Jude, Cayden, and Addison; and brother, James (Jan) Olson of Thief River Falls, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents, Arnold Spidahl and Viola Sorenson; brother, Wayne Sorenson; sister, Jean Haus; daughter-in-law, Sandy Drees; and uncle, Emery Franklin.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, North Dakota. A visitation will be held 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at church.  Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
