Three-Vehicle Injury Crash Near Reeder

Road Conditions: Ice-covered roads
Weather Conditions: High winds, blowing snow, and sleet
Type of Crash: Right-angle and rear-end collisions
Agencies Involved: North Dakota Highway Patrol, Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Bowman Ambulance, West River Ambulance, Hettinger Fire, Reeder Fire, and Scranton Fire.


Summary of the Incident:

A three-vehicle collision occurred in icy and windy conditions at the intersection of Highway 12 and Highway 22 near Reeder, North Dakota. The crash involved a 2013 Chevrolet Express van, a 2007 GMC Yukon, and a 2024 Volvo truck. The Volvo, traveling northbound on Highway 22, slid through the stop sign-controlled intersection and jackknifed due to icy conditions. The Express van and Yukon, traveling eastbound on Highway 12, were unable to stop and collided with the semi-trailer.

Vehicle 2: 2007 GMC Yukon

  • Driver: Female, 50, Alberton, MT – Minor injury

    • Female, 8, Alberton, MT – Minor injury

Vehicle 3: 2024 Volvo Truck

  • Driver: Male, 41, Irvine, CA – Not injured

Response and Investigation:

Emergency services transported injured individuals to West River Health Services in Hettinger and Southwest Healthcare Services in Bowman. Four individuals required ground ambulance transport to Rapid City Monument Hospital.

Road conditions, weather, and vehicle operation are being evaluated as part of the investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Charges are under review, and details will be released following family notifications. Names of minors will not be disclosed.
