Bemidji (trfnews.i234.me) — Tyler Lassman of Faribault, Minnesota, is facing criminal charges in Bemidji. Police say he tried to break into a home.

What the police say happened

According to a statement of probable cause, Bemidji police responded at about 8:45 p.m. on Jan. 4. Officers were sent to the 2500 block of Itasca Loop Northwest. The call reported a man trying to get into a residence.

When officers arrived, they reported finding a man slumped in a snowbank. Police identified him as Tyler Lassman. Officers said he appeared highly intoxicated. They also said he fell over in the snow. Lassman told officers he was cold.

Detention and reported struggle

While officers spoke with Lassman, another officer reported hearing a threat. The complaint quotes Lassman as saying, “I’m going to fight this b—-.” Police say Lassman then moved toward an officer.

Officers moved in to detain him, the complaint says. Police say Lassman tensed up and resisted. Officers reported a struggle that lasted about four minutes. Police said they then secured him in handcuffs.

Charges filed

Prosecutors have charged Lassman with felony burglary. He is also charged with gross misdemeanor obstructing legal process. A misdemeanor damage to property charge was also filed.

Burglary charges in Minnesota are listed under Minn. Stat. § 609.582. Obstructing legal process is covered under Minn. Stat. § 609.50. Damage to property is covered under Minn. Stat. § 609.595.

Police reports are not convictions. The charges are allegations. Defendants are presumed innocent in court.

Bemidji is the county seat of Beltrami County. The complaint says the call came from a neighborhood on the city’s northwest side.
