Deer Collisions Remain a Fall Driving Hazard

Wildlife collisions are an ongoing safety concern for Minnesota motorists, especially during the fall.

Deer become more active near roadways during evening and early morning hours.

The State of Minnesota’s deer safety guidance encourages motorists to watch roadsides and reduce speed in deer-populated areas.

Drivers are also advised to avoid swerving suddenly to escape a deer collision.

Sudden steering movements can cause vehicles to leave the roadway or enter opposing traffic.

These recommendations are general safety guidance and do not establish what happened before the Highway 14 crash.
