Thief River Falls, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – A Roseau man has been charged in Pennington County District Court after he allegedly choked his wife Sunday afternoon. Two juveniles were reportedly at the home at the time.
Brandon Lee Torres, 27, has been charged with felony domestic assault by strangulation. He was arrested.
According to the complaint, Pennington County dispatch received a 911 call at about 12:07 p.m. Sunday from someone in the 300 block of Duluth Ave. N. in Thief River Falls. The caller hung up without speaking to dispatch. Shortly after, a woman called the non-emergency phone line and informed dispatch that Torres had allegedly assaulted her. She stated they were in separate rooms at the time of the call.
Law enforcement arrived to find the woman sitting on a porch with her two juvenile sons. She appeared to be crying, and her shirt was ripped down to her chest.
Torres allegedly told a police officer that he became upset because the woman would not leave him alone. The woman stated that the argument began around 4 a.m. when their 10-month-old baby woke up and was fussy. The argument continued on and off throughout the morning.
At one point, she said she attempted to leave the bedroom, but Torres grabbed her by the shirt while she was holding the baby and pulled her to the floor. He then took the baby, placed the child on a bed, chased the woman down the stairs, grabbed her by the shirt, and choked her to the point she could not breathe.
Later, Torres went back upstairs. The woman followed a short time after to retrieve the crying baby. Torres allegedly chased her down the stairs again, leading her to run out of the house without a shirt and call the police. A police sergeant observed red marks on the woman’s neck.
