Strathcona, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – The Roseau County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the identity of a man found deceased after a house fire on Monday, November 4, in the City of Strathcona. The deceased was identified as 38-year-old Seddrex G. Gates of Brainerd.
The fire was reported at 6:31 p.m., and upon arrival, the interior of the home showed significant fire and smoke damage. Sheriff Steve Gust confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The cause of the fire and death are still under investigation by the Roseau County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Seddrex Gates was born on January 23, 1986, to his mother Jackquline “Jackie” (Gates) Wylie in Chicago, Illinois. Seddrex held a master’s in computer science and business, and he worked for Allied Universal in security. He resided in Brainerd, Minnesota and had been united in marriage with his wife, Areial (Stoecker) Gates since July 1, 2024.
Seddrex enjoyed sitting on the beach at the ocean, spending time with family and friends, and playing PS5; he loved playing a good game of spades, which he would always win. Seddrex also loved watching sports, especially the Yankees. His love for baseball extended further into his life while he would teach his stepsons how to play baseball. Aside from keeping up with sports, Seddrex would make sure to stay up to date with politics. He had a contagious smile, lighting up any room while he lived for laughs.
Seddrex was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Arabella Oberg.
Seddrex is survived by his wife, Areial Gates; stepchildren Tyler Holtz, Asher Oberg, Zayden Burcham, Maverick Burcham; his mother, Jackie Wylie; and siblings Tomika Bogan, Timothy Haney, Raven Gates, Melvin Mcabee, Anita Mcabee, and Anna Mcabee.
