HOMER, Neb. – North Dakota State men’s golf team climbed two places to finish second at the Throw Down, Up Top hosted by South Dakota at Landmand Golf Club. The Bison had four players finish the tournament in the top-25.
Rylin Petry led the pack of Bison with back-to-back birdies on the 17th and 18th to finish in a tie for seventh. Petry carded five total birdies to end -3 on the day and -2 in the tournament.
Josh Galvin recorded a team high of seven birdies in round three, five of which were on the back nine. Galvin shot -4 on the round to bring him to -1 overall and a tie for tenth in the tournament.
Ian Simonich tallied four birdies to finish -2 on the round and with a final score of +1, landing 14th overall. Jake Skarperud climbed 14 spots after sinking five birdies and firing -3 on the day. Skarperud finished +2 in tie for 15th place.
Sean Moore rounded out the Bison with a +1 in the third round after two birdies and an eagle on the par-5 15th. Moore finished at +12 in a tie for 48th.
NDSU individual Max Wilson had four birdies in the final round to end +4 on the day and +8 overall. Carter Spalding also competed as an individual for NDSU and tallied three birdies to end +2 today and +13 overall. Wilson finished in a tie for 34th and Spalding finished in a tie for 52nd.
All seven Bison sank at least two birdies in the final round to help secure a second-place finish after shooting -12 on the day. The Bison finished with an even-par overall, just ahead of Omaha (+1). Loyola-Chicago claimed the tournament title, finishing -14 in the final round and -16 overall.
The Bison men will be back in action in Monterrey, Mexico for the Monterrey Collegiate Classic held at the Club Campestre de Monterrey A.C. on October 25-26.
