According to reports from officials, a leaking propane tank ignited when someone lit a cigarette. The resulting fire caused burns covering 5% to 55% of the victims’ bodies.
The family’s older brother, Dimitri Frank, spoke about his siblings’ condition, stating they have all undergone surgery and are expected to remain in hospital for several months.
Frank also mentioned that one of his brothers has shown significant improvement, but emphasized that their road to recovery will be long.
State Fire Marshal Daniel Krier provided guidance on gas safety, advising people to pay attention to the smell of rotten eggs when potentially exposed to natural or propane gas. He recommended checking propane cylinders by applying cold water and observing condensation buildup.
Krier also stressed the importance of leaving a space immediately if something seems wrong and calling for help.
