Darren Robert Halvorson, 43, was charged with felony first-degree DWI on October 5. According to court records, a Detroit Lakes police officer observed a vehicle traveling east on Willow Street at approximately 1:30 a.m.
The registered owner’s driver’s license status had been canceled due to being inimical to public safety. The vehicle turned into a driveway and the driver exited, prompting the officer to turn his lights on and park behind it.
As the officer approached, Halvorson began walking behind the house before running away from him. He was subsequently arrested after being chased by the officer. Upon arrest, he smelled of an alcoholic beverage, had bloodshot eyes, and slurred speech.
Halvorson declined to perform field sobriety tests at both the scene and in jail. On October 8, he posted a $30,000 bond and was released without conditions. His initial appearance before District Court Judge Michelle W. Lawson is set for November 4.
