Andrew James Varno, 26, of Detroit Lakes, has been charged with felony theft in Becker County District Court. According to court records, a residence in Burlington Township reported that copper had gone missing on February 8, 2024.
The homeowner stated she had left her home around 11 p.m., and when she returned at 3:30 a.m., the copper was no longer present. On February 9, 2024, an investigator received information that the stolen copper had been turned in for scrap at the EMR recycling plant in Fargo.
EMR provided photos of the copper, which matched those taken by the homeowner. The value of the stolen copper is $1,688.50. A deputy spoke to the woman on February 10, 2024, and she reported finding a casino card with Andrew Varno’s name on her driveway.
A summons was issued for Varno to make his first court appearance on November 19 before District Judge Gretchen Thilmony.
