Beltrami County (trfnews.i234.me) — A burned-out brake light led to a major case for a Bemidji driver, according to new court filings.
Records say Jennifer C. Dodge of Bemidji was stopped on November 28 around 11:22 p.m. The stop soon shifted from a minor violation to a criminal case.

The complaint says Dodge was told to remain in her vehicle. Instead, she got out and walked back toward the officer.
The officer reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol. Dodge’s speech was described as slow and slurred.
When asked how much she had to drink, Dodge allegedly answered, “Enough.” She then tried to walk away from the traffic stop, according to the report.
Officers say Dodge began to scream and fight as they detained her. She allegedly kicked at them and struck one officer in the shin.
A breath test later showed a blood alcohol level of 0.23, the report states. That is close to three times Minnesota’s legal limit of 0.08.
Dodge now faces three charges. She is charged with felony assault of a peace officer, gross misdemeanor DWI, and obstructing the legal process.
The case will move through Beltrami County District Court. People can search case records and hearing schedules at mncourts.gov.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety notes that DWI convictions can bring fines, jail time, and license loss. Details on state DWI laws and penalties are posted at dps.mn.gov.
Public safety campaigns continue to urge drivers to plan a sober ride. Groups such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving share resources at madd.org.
At this time, the charges against Jennifer C. Dodge remain allegations. She is presumed innocent unless a judge or jury finds her guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
