Justice Served: Arthur Deshun Campbell’s Becker County Fair Assault Case

Becker County, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Arthur Deshun Campbell was sentenced in Becker County District Court for two misdemeanor fifth-degree assault charges. Two felony second-degree assault charges were dropped as part of a plea agreement.

On July 28, 2023, Detroit Lakes police officers responded to an assault report at a residence. A juvenile male stated he had been assaulted the day before at the Becker County Fair by another identified juvenile male (ARS). The boy reported that ARS pushed him down and then punched him in the face while on the ground.

The boy’s friend intervened when Campbell hit him with a tire iron, taking it away from him. An officer observed the boy to have injuries including a swollen bloody lip and forehead, red marks, and bruising on his back and chest. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of a concussion.

A girl who witnessed the assault stated she saw Campbell approach but did not see a tire iron. She believed it was next to a fair ride when he swung it like a hammer and hit the boy’s back.

On July 26, District Judge Gretchen Thilmony sentenced Campbell on the misdemeanors to 90 days in jail with 32 days stayed for a year, credit for 58 days served. He was fined $650 plus $150 in court fees and placed on supervised probation for one year under standard conditions.
