CLEAR LAKE, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Hunter Buckentine, a 24-year-old man from Avon, Minnesota, was sentenced to nine years and eight months in prison for his role in a fatal car crash that occurred on August 19, 2023. The incident took place around 1:00 a.m. on Highway 10 in Becker when Buckentine’s vehicle collided with another car at high speed.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Buckentine was driving an Infiniti at a speed of approximately 133 mph before rear-ending the victim’s vehicle. A witness reported that he had been drinking with Buckentine earlier in the evening and claimed that shortly before the crash, Buckentine took a Snapchat photo of his speedometer reading 150 mph.
Buckentine pleaded guilty to one count of criminal vehicular homicide and another of criminal vehicular operation. The Sherburne County Attorney’s Office stated that this level of recklessness on the roads led to senseless injuries and loss of life.
The victims in the crash were identified as Jordan Kramer, a 34-year-old man from Clarissa who was killed in the accident, and Candice Pooler, a 38-year-old woman also from Clarissa, who suffered severe injuries. Another woman was found in the ditch with minor injuries.
County Attorney Kathleen Heaney stated that holding Buckentine accountable for his actions is the only measure of justice that can be given to the families and friends impacted by this tragedy. It is hoped that this accountability will begin their journey towards healing.
