The NFL season is heading into Week Seven, and that means it is a week closer to the NFL Trade Deadline. Teams will be major buyers and sellers as the true direction of teams is being showcased as to whether they are actual contenders or on the verge of a rebuild. With the Deshaun Watson injury, Cleveland needs to undergo a full rebuild, and trade Myles Garrett before the deadline

Since being drafted in 2017, Garrett has been a staple player on the Browns defense, becoming a household name. Garrett has accumulated 483 pressures as well as 100 sacks over his career and has only missed just 28 tackles. Garrett’s impact is one that has led to him being consistently double-teamed, but with his skills that hasn’t mattered as he has still dominated.

Trading Garrett would hurt the Browns’ defense, but at this rate they will not be in a spot to contend with a 1-6 record, and no quarterback security. Cleveland needs as much draft capital as possible to rebuild the team and secure their future franchise quarterback, which should be Shedeur Sanders. In addition, they need to do what is right and put Garrett on a team closer to making the Super Bowl and winning a ring as he is turning 29 and has dealt with lingering injuries, which could cause him to retire sooner than expected.

The ideal team that is contending for Cleveland to trade Garrett to is the Minnesota Vikings. This has everything to do with the Vikings general manager in Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. Before Adofo-Mensah became the Vikings general manager, he was with the Browns from 2020-2022 as their vice president of football operations. Adofo-Mensah was around Garrett, news directly the value he can bring to the defense, and has ties to the Browns organization.

The Vikings just suffered their first loss of the season to the Detroit Lions, but have a 5-1 record and look bound for the NFL playoffs. The defense has been strong, leading the NFL in pressures with 88, and are third in sacks with 24. Jonathan Greenard and Patrick Jones have been great off the edge, but as the season goes on and into the playoffs, having the depth on the defensive line would be ideal for Minnesota. Adding Garrett to the mix would help the Browns have a rotation at the edge position that they can initiate to keep all guys fresh and get pressure at a consistent rate.

The Vikings need to go all in this season on making sure they represent the NFC in the Super Bowl, and they do so by trading for Garrett. For the Browns, trading Garrett and acquiring plenty of draft capital is the quickest way they skip a long rebuilding process.
