Russmann and Watson Sweep Summit League Peak Performer Honors

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota State soccer’s Morgan Russmann and Olivia Watson have swept the Summit League Peak Performer of the Week honors, announced the league office Monday afternoon.

Russmann was named the offensive peak performer, with Watson scooping up the defensive peak performer honors, following a 1-0 win for the Bison against South Dakota State and a 4-2 win against South Dakota.

It is the first career honor for Russmann, who scored three goals and had an assist in the two games. Russmann scored the game’s only goal in the win over the Jackrabbits on Thursday night, securing her third game-winning goal in four games at the time. The freshman then scored two goals and also assisted the game-winning goal for the Bison against South Dakota. Russmann won a penalty and then converted from the spot for her first goal on Sunday, before scoring the final Bison goal on a counter attack.

Watson also receives her first Summit League weekly honor. The senior recently moved to a defensive midfield role and was a key part of the defensive unit that blocked several shots and helped keep a cleansheet against South Dakota State in a battle of two teams that were tied atop the league standings. Watson then added an assist by forcing a turnover and jump starting Russmann’s counter attack goal that sealed the win over South Dakota.

The honors are the first for NDSU this season. It is the first time NDSU has swept Summit League honors in the same week since Mariah Haberle (offensive) and Monica Polgar (defensive) on August 26, 2019.

The Bison are set to wrap up the regular season on Sunday, as North Dakota State hosts St. Thomas at Dacotah Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
