Patricia (Pat) Nelson, 77, reached the end of a long battle with numerous health ailments on October 8, 2024. She inspired many with her strong faith and happy anticipation of heaven (even though her family said 20 more years).
Patricia Susan Halldin was born on January 23, 1947, to Kenneth and Beth (McLoad) Halldin. She was able to experience life in numerous towns around the country, but Thief River Falls, MN was always home. Pat relocated to East Grand Forks, MN to be close to her family.
Shortly after graduation, she began working at Arctic Cat where she met Dave Happersett. They were married and Pat became a wonderful mother to her children, Beth, David, and Kenneth. Pat and Darrel Nelson were married in 1981 and continued to make memories in Thief River Falls.
Throughout her life, Pat was devoted to helping and caring for those around her. She worked as a chemical dependency counselor for East Grand Forks and Thief River Falls. She also helped start the local women’s shelter and was an advocate for domestic violence victims.
Pat loved to spend time with her family and friends. She enjoyed spoiling her grandkids and great-grandkids with hugs, kisses, and little trinkets that made her think of them. When she was not with family or friends, Pat liked to read, watch mystery shows, going for car rides, and gardening.
Pat is survived by her daughter Beth (Mike) Melby of Grand Forks; sons, David Nelson of East Grand Forks, Kenny Nelson of East Grand Forks, Kevin (Dana) Nelson of Rosedale, LA, and Michael (Traci) Nelson of Columbus, MS; grandchildren, Kylie (Cody) Ekern, Madison (Alex Nelson) Melby, Bailey (Michael Bowles) Melby, Neathan Nelson, Margarett Nelson, McLoad Nelson, Kimberly (Jonathan) Guillory, Farah (Corey) Nelson, Sean Nelson, Sarah (Jack) Carmical, and Je’Ray Nelson; great-grandchildren, Luka, Lilian, Eleanor, Jackson, and Iris. Pat leaves many other friends and family that will miss her dearly.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Beth; brother, Stuart Halldin; Granddaughter, Kayla Nelson; and her dog, Lady.
