NDSU Volleyball Outlasts Kansas City in Five Sets

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The North Dakota State volleyball team outlasted Kansas City in five sets, 3-2, on Thursday night at Swinney Center.

After Kansas City (3-12, 1-3 Summit) jumped out to 2-1 lead in the match, NDSU (7-6, 3-1 Summit) quickly answered in the fourth set constructing a 7-1 run featuring two kills from both Ali Hinze and Lauren Jansen to make the score 10-3. The Roos then battled their way back to lock the frame, 22-22, with an ace from Leah Green. NDSU went on to hold off Kansas City finishing the set on a 3-1 run to win the frame, 25-23.

NDSU carried the energy into the fifth set putting together five unanswered points to make the score 10-5 with a kill from Hinze. The Bison then began to take control with another 3-0 run to stretch their lead to 14-8 with a kill from Hinze. NDSU went on to win the set, 15-10, and the match, 3-2.

Hinze led the way logging her fifth double-double of the season with a match-high 18 kills and 12 digs, while Alexis Boling connected on a season-best 15 kills with a .452 hitting percentage. Eke Denessen handed out a team-best 24 assists and Logan O’Brien notched a season-best 29 digs on the defensive end of the floor.

NDSU will continue its road swing at Omaha on Saturday. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m., at Baxter Arena.
