White Earth Man Gets 10 Years; Drugs Hidden in Log

WHITE EARTH, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) — A White Earth man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for trafficking methamphetamine and cocaine.

Dominic Ray LaFriniere, 51, received the 120-month prison sentence Thursday, October 22, 2026.

Federal investigators found 900 grams of methamphetamine hidden inside a hollowed-out log during the investigation.

They also discovered 60 grams of cocaine concealed inside a rolled-up carpet.

White Earth Man Sentenced in Federal Drug Case

U.S. District Judge Jeffrey M. Bryan sentenced LaFriniere in federal court.

He was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine.

U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen announced the sentence in an October 22 news release.

The case followed a drug investigation that began several years earlier.

Investigation Began in 2022

According to federal court documents, the White Earth Tribal Police Department began investigating LaFriniere’s suspected drug distribution activities in 2022.

Several other law enforcement agencies assisted with the investigation.

Investigators arranged a controlled purchase of methamphetamine from LaFriniere.

Authorities also searched his residence as part of their investigation.

However, the investigation became inactive after LaFriniere was incarcerated in a Minnesota state prison.

Federal officials said the investigation resumed in January 2024.

At that time, officers arrested LaFriniere for possessing 13 grams of methamphetamine.

Methamphetamine Discovered Inside Hollowed-Out Log

In April 2024, investigators monitored LaFriniere as he traveled from the White Earth area to Minneapolis.

Police tracked his movements during the trip.

When LaFriniere returned toward the White Earth Reservation, tribal police stopped his truck.

Officers seized the vehicle and conducted a search.

During that search, investigators made an unusual discovery.

They found approximately 900 grams of methamphetamine concealed inside a hollowed-out log.

Authorities also discovered 60 grams of cocaine hidden inside a rolled-up carpet.

Both amounts were documented in federal court records.

The evidence became part of the federal drug trafficking investigation.

Federal Prosecutor Responds to Sentencing

U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen criticized LaFriniere’s involvement in illegal drug trafficking.

Rosen said LaFriniere chose to profit from methamphetamine trafficking despite the harm caused by addiction.

He also emphasized the Justice Department’s commitment to reducing illegal drug distribution in Minnesota communities.

The sentencing concludes a major part of the federal prosecution against LaFriniere.

Multiple Agencies Assisted in Investigation

The White Earth Tribal Police Department played a central role in developing the case.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension also assisted with the investigation.

Other law enforcement partners provided additional support.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Syngen Kanassatega prosecuted the federal case.

The investigation involved drug distribution activities connected to the White Earth Reservation and travel to Minneapolis.

Federal Prison Sentence Confirmed

LaFriniere was sentenced to 120 months, equivalent to 10 years, in federal prison.

The official announcement did not provide a projected prison release date.

Additional details are available in the U.S. Department of Justice sentencing announcement.
