MARSHALL COUNTY, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – A disturbing case of elder abuse has come to light in Strandquist, Minnesota, where a 69-year-old woman has been accused of financially exploiting her elderly mother. Peggy Ann Omdahl faces seven felony charges for allegedly stealing over $1.2 million from the vulnerable adult.
According to an amended criminal complaint filed August 13, Marshall County Social Services and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office received a report alleging that Omdahl had used her power of attorney to exploit her mother financially. The investigation revealed that Omdahl had written checks totaling $115,038.70 to herself from her mother’s bank account.
The nursing home where Omdahl’s mother has been living since November 2022 reported that she owed over $169,000 in unpaid bills. Despite this, Omdahl allegedly used a quitclaim deed to transfer ownership of her mother’s land worth $532,000 to herself.
Omdahl was interviewed by law enforcement and reportedly claimed that none of the money had been spent on herself, but rather for repairs to her mother’s home. However, investigators found that over 90% of the funds were used for personal expenses, including payments to a Capital One card totaling $160,061.81.
The total value of allegedly stolen property and funds is $1,222,660.98. Omdahl has pleaded not guilty to all seven felony charges and her pre-trial hearing is scheduled for December 3.
