Red Lake Woman Sentenced for Child Neglect Leading to Child’s Death

MINNEAPOLIS (trfnews.i234.me)A 64-year-old Red Lake woman, Sharon Rosebear, has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison after being convicted of felony child neglect, resulting in the tragic death of a young girl under her care. Court documents revealed that Rosebear cared for the child throughout 2022 but cruelly deprived her of essential food and medical care.

The young girl’s death was attributed to severe starvation and a fatal infection, which doctors believe may have entered through untreated lice infestations on her scalp. Despite receiving government nutritional and financial assistance and having free access to healthcare services on the Red Lake Reservation, Rosebear failed to provide the basic necessities for the child’s survival.

Julius Fineday, a co-defendant in the case, pleaded guilty earlier this year and received a five-year prison sentence for his role in the neglect.
