Thief River Falls Woman Faces Two Felony Drug Charges

THIEF RIVER FALLS, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – A 32-year-old Thief River Falls woman faces two felony drug charges following a September search of a multi-unit residence.

Tiffany Lynn Nelson is accused of possessing a controlled substance within a park zone and storing methamphetamine paraphernalia in a residential building.

According to a Pennington County criminal complaint, investigators discovered suspected drug paraphernalia, cash, and controlled substances during the September 25, 2026, investigation.

Search Warrant Executed Near Hartz Park

Investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence and person of Alexander Todd Brua.

The residence was located within 300 feet of the Hartz Park zone and near Discovery Place Child Care Center.

When authorities arrived, Brua and Tiffany Nelson were outside the residence.

Officers provided Brua with the search warrant before entering the building.

During the search, investigators discovered several items believed to be associated with methamphetamine use.

Drug Paraphernalia and Cash Discovered

According to court documents, investigators found a glass pipe on the kitchen table.

A field test of residue from the pipe reportedly returned a presumptive positive result for methamphetamine.

Officers also located suspected methamphetamine pipes, bongs, and small plastic bags throughout the residence.

In the bathroom, investigators discovered a digital scale with a shot glass resting on it.

Residue inside the glass also reportedly tested presumptively positive for methamphetamine.

Investigators found additional smoking devices in the bedroom and living room.

A bedroom bag reportedly contained more than $5,000 in cash.

Officers also discovered needles and a small bag containing residue in a closet.

Mail addressed to both Brua and Nelson was found inside the residence.

Suspected Methamphetamine Found on Another Person

Following the residential search, investigators arrested Brua.

During a search of his person, officers allegedly discovered four smaller bags containing a crystalline substance.

The substance reportedly tested presumptively positive for methamphetamine.

Investigators estimated the weight at approximately 25.3 grams, including packaging, using an uncertified scale.

That material was reportedly found on Brua, not Nelson.

Authorities planned to submit the suspected drugs for further laboratory testing.

Police Dog Alerts Near Nelson’s Jacket

Officers were also aware that Nelson had release conditions in a separate Marshall County DWI case.

Those conditions reportedly prohibited her from possessing or using non-prescribed controlled substances.

During the investigation, an officer reported observing possible signs of impairment.

According to the complaint, Nelson appeared sluggish and repeatedly played with her hair.

Investigators then requested assistance from K9 Banner.

The police dog reportedly alerted near Nelson’s jacket pocket during an open-air sniff.

Officers arrested Nelson and discovered a metal straw inside her pocket.

The straw appeared to contain residue, according to court documents.

Nelson reportedly acknowledged that the straw contained fentanyl.

A field test returned a presumptive positive result for fentanyl.

The complaint states the residue would be submitted to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for confirmation.

Two Felony Charges Filed

Prosecutors filed two felony charges against Nelson in Pennington County District Court.

Count 1: Third-degree controlled substance possession within a park zone, carrying a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both.

Count 2: Storing methamphetamine paraphernalia in a multi-unit residential building, carrying a maximum penalty of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.

These are maximum statutory penalties, not sentences imposed by the court.
