DETROIT LAKES —  Andrew Steven Draeger, the former mayor of Mapleton, North Dakota, has been sentenced to 90 days in jail, probation, and electronic home monitoring for a DUI crash at Detroit Mountain that left his girlfriend, Kimberly Brinkman, with severe injuries. Draeger admitted to consuming alcohol before the February crash, which resulted in his truck veering off the road and colliding with trees.

Brinkman, who suffered a fractured neck and back, advocated for Draeger to receive a more lenient sentence, citing his support throughout her recovery. Judge Michael Fritz considered her statement, giving Draeger 70 days of electronic home monitoring after serving 20 days in jail. Draeger has since quit drinking and is working to rebuild his life after losing his job and community trust.

Draeger will serve four years of supervised probation and has been ordered to abstain from alcohol and undergo random testing.
