Crookston Officer Charged in Jail Sex Assault Case

CROOKSTON (trfnews.i234.me) — A corrections officer faces two felony charges after two female inmates reported sexual assaults at a Crookston jail.

Irving Emmanuel Jacobo Bravo, 49, of Red Lake Falls, was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The allegations involve a prohibited occupational relationship at the Northwest Regional Corrections Center.

A criminal complaint filed September 28, 2026, in Polk County District Court details the investigation.

The reported assaults occurred September 11, 2026, following several weeks of alleged inappropriate contact.

Two Inmates Report Alleged Sexual Assaults

According to the complaint, investigators responded to the correctional facility after two women reported sexual assaults.

Both women alleged Bravo had repeatedly entered their shared cell over several weeks.

They told investigators he brought candy, tobacco, and other items while making unwanted physical contact.

One woman alleged Bravo entered their cell on September 11 and sexually assaulted both inmates.

The second woman described similar allegations involving repeated sexual contact inside the jail.

She also reported alleged incidents in a nearby mop closet.

The complaint states Bravo sometimes used routine jail duties as a reason to enter the women’s cell.

Investigators documented the allegations as part of a criminal investigation.

DNA Evidence Cited in Criminal Complaint

Both women underwent sexual assault forensic examinations following their reports.

Investigators collected evidence and submitted samples to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

Authorities also obtained a search warrant to collect a DNA sample from Bravo.

According to the complaint, laboratory results were received on September 23, 2026.

The results reportedly identified Y-chromosomal DNA profiles matching Bravo in samples collected from both women.

These findings were included in the probable cause statement supporting the criminal allegations.

The complaint also describes an interview with a witness who reportedly spoke with Bravo about the investigation.

That witness alleged Bravo acknowledged inappropriate touching and expressed concern about the investigation.

These statements remain allegations described in the criminal complaint.

Felony Charges and Court Proceedings

Bravo faces two felony counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a prohibited occupational relationship.

Each count carries a possible maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.

These are possible legal penalties, not sentences imposed against Bravo.

The Minnesota Legislature publishes the applicable provisions under Minnesota Statute 609.344.

Bravo was reportedly booked in Pennington County and later released on bond.

An initial court appearance was scheduled for October 6, 2026.

The outcome of that appearance was not confirmed in the records reviewed for this report.

Bravo is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
