Detroit Lakes: Wilkins Faces Sex Crime, Assault Charges

DETROIT LAKES, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Travis Michael Wilkins, 37, faces two criminal charges.

The accusations stem from a September 9 incident at a Detroit Lakes residence.

Prosecutors charged Wilkins in Becker County District Court with gross misdemeanor fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct and misdemeanor domestic assault.

According to court records, the allegations involve a woman and a teenage boy inside the residence.

Police Respond to Report of Stabbing

Two Detroit Lakes police officers arrived at the residence on September 9 and found Wilkins covered in blood.

Wilkins told officers he had been stabbed, according to court records.

He also reportedly behaved in an agitated manner and asked officers to shoot him.

The court report states he tried to position himself in front of a moving vehicle.

Officers entered a nearby residence and encountered a teenage boy who also had blood on him.

The boy declined to provide a statement to police at that time.

One witness gave investigators a knife that appeared to have blood on it.

She told officers the boy had used that knife to stab Wilkins.

Witness Describes Bedroom Confrontation

A second witness told police she shared a bedroom with the teenage boy, who was her relative.

She said Wilkins slept in a separate room inside the residence.

According to her account, Wilkins had been drinking before entering the shared bedroom.

The witness noticed someone nearby in the darkness and turned on her phone’s flashlight.

She recognized Wilkins, who left the room before returning and demanding his keys.

The witness alleged that Wilkins began kicking and breaking objects inside the room.

She told him to leave and tried to push him away, but he allegedly shoved her.

Wilkins then allegedly attacked the teenage boy while the boy remained in bed.

According to the witness, Wilkins grabbed the boy’s genitals during the confrontation.

The witness said she tried to stop the attack but could not.

She reported that the boy stabbed Wilkins during the struggle, after which Wilkins left.
