Fargo Man Sentenced for Felony Domestic Assault After Violent Attack in Detroit Lakes

Todd Anthony Belland Jr., 34, of Fargo, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony domestic assault following a violent altercation on March 26 in Detroit Lakes.

Court records reveal that deputies responded to a domestic disturbance on Old Pit Road, where they found Belland walking away from a vehicle with smashed windows. His girlfriend, who was inside the vehicle, claimed he slapped her twice and damaged her vehicle with a golf club while accusing her of cheating.

Belland admitted to damaging the vehicle and having a methamphetamine pipe in his possession. A second assault charge and property damage charge were dropped in a plea agreement.

Belland was sentenced to 18 months in prison, stayed for five years, and 69 days in jail (credited). He was also fined $500 and placed on supervised probation for five years. A probation violation hearing is set for November 25, 2024.
