Thief River Falls Man Charged in Registry Violation Case

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) — Jon Michael Hruby, 29, faces a felony charge in Pennington County.

Hruby is charged with failing to fulfill predatory offender registration requirements.

He was arrested after investigators located him at a camper in Thief River Falls.

The case began October 1, according to an amended criminal complaint.

Investigator Learns of Active Warrant

A Pennington County sheriff’s investigator learned Hruby was allegedly out of compliance with registration rules.

Investigators also learned he had an active felony arrest warrant from Kittson County.

The warrant involved two alleged failures to register as a predatory offender.

A Thief River Falls police investigator later located Hruby’s camper at Falls Stay N Play.

Investigators confirmed that Hruby was living there, according to the complaint.

Law enforcement later obtained a search warrant for the camper.

Hruby was arrested when officers executed the warrant.

Complaint Says Registration Was Not Updated

Hruby allegedly told investigators he had been in Pennington County for about two weeks.

He said he had left Kittson County because of family issues.

According to the complaint, Hruby acknowledged he had not updated his registration.

He also allegedly said he had not notified authorities in Kittson County.

The complaint states Hruby agreed that two weeks was too long to wait.

He allegedly said updating his registration had remained in the back of his mind.

Minnesota Law Requires Updated Registration

Minnesota law requires certain registered offenders to provide current address and residence information.

Registration requirements can include prompt notice when a person’s primary or secondary address changes.

Failure to comply can lead to criminal charges under state law.

Readers can review Minnesota Statute 243.166 through the Minnesota Revisor of Statutes.

The amended complaint also references a prior Marshall County conviction involving electronic solicitation of a child.

That prior case was cited as part of Hruby’s registration history.

Case Remains Pending

The allegations contained in a criminal complaint are not proof of guilt.

Hruby is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Charges may be amended, dismissed, or otherwise changed as the case moves forward.

Public case information may be available through Minnesota Court Records Online.
