Mahnomen Man Faces Two DWI Counts After Traffic Stop
Mahnomen (trfnews.i234.me) — Bryan Keith Sam II faces four charges following a June traffic stop in Mahnomen.
The charges include two gross misdemeanor DWI counts and two misdemeanor offenses.
Sam, 42, is also charged with driving after revocation and an open cannabis package violation.
The case was filed in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District Court in Mahnomen County.
The allegations have not been proven in court.
Traffic Stop Begins DWI Investigation
Authorities stopped Sam at about 8:42 a.m. on June 20, 2026.
Investigators had received information that Sam was driving toward Mahnomen with a revoked license.
Sam allegedly acknowledged that he did not have a valid driver’s license.
Dispatch confirmed his driving privileges were revoked, according to the complaint.
Authorities also reported that Sam could not provide valid proof of insurance.
During the stop, investigators reported that Sam had bloodshot and watery eyes.
Sam allegedly said he had smoked marijuana the previous night.
Authorities then conducted several field sobriety tests.
The complaint alleges Sam showed multiple possible signs of impairment during those tests.
Those signs included swaying, eye tremors, facial tremors, and problems during coordination testing.
Vehicle Search Finds Cannabis and Pipe
Sam was arrested on suspicion of DWI after completing the tests.
Authorities then searched the vehicle.
They allegedly found marijuana inside a teal-colored container in the backseat.
A glass pipe with residue was also reportedly found behind the driver’s seat.
Investigators also reported finding a marijuana joint inside a beverage can.
Sam was transported to the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office.
A signed search warrant was presented for a biological sample, according to court records.
Sam agreed to provide a blood sample at a local medical facility.
Blood Test Results Cited in Complaint
The sample was sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
The complaint states testing detected THC, oxycodone, and oxymorphone in Sam’s system.
Prosecutors also cite a prior DWI conviction from February 2026.
That prior incident is listed as an aggravating factor for the current DWI charges.
Sam faces third-degree DWI under Minnesota’s impaired driving laws.
One DWI count carries a maximum $3,000 fine and possible jail time.
The remaining charges involve an open cannabis package and driving after revocation.
The case was filed with a summons in Mahnomen County District Court.
Sam is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
