Bemidji (trfnews.i234.me) — A Bemidji man faces a felony theft charge after an early-morning motorcycle theft investigation.
Nathan Andrew Burnham, 35, is charged with theft of movable property without consent.
The case was filed in Beltrami County District Court under case number 04-CR-26-2312.
The felony carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
It also carries a possible $10,000 fine.
Motorcycle Reported Missing
The investigation began around 6:02 a.m. on September 21.
Authorities received a report that a motorcycle had been stolen in Beltrami County.
According to the criminal complaint, the motorcycle’s owner woke up and discovered the bike was missing.
The owner then went outside to look for the motorcycle.
Prosecutors say he found Burnham standing with the motorcycle in the grass near a fence.
Burnham allegedly appeared to be trying to move the motorcycle through the fence.
Burnham Gives Explanation
Burnham gave authorities a different explanation for what happened.
According to the complaint, Burnham claimed he was simply walking through the area early that morning.
He allegedly told investigators that his foot brushed against the motorcycle while he was walking past it.

Felony Theft Charge Filed
Prosecutors allege Burnham intentionally took the motorcycle without the owner’s permission.
They further allege he intended to permanently deprive the owner of the motorcycle.
Burnham is charged under Minnesota Statute 609.52.
The charge is classified as a felony.
The allegation has not been proven in court.
Burnham is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
