Baxter, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — Cody Tomas Vouk faces three criminal charges after several reported incidents on July 13, 2026.
The case includes a felony threats charge, a gross misdemeanor obstruction charge, and a misdemeanor DWI charge.
According to the complaint, police first responded to the Holiday Inn Express in Baxter for a welfare check.
Vouk spoke with officers but declined assistance and became upset during the first contact.
Police later returned after Vouk asked to speak with an officer again.
The complaint says Vouk was cooperative during that second contact and later went back inside the hotel.
Hotel Disturbance Reported
Police were called back around 6:46 p.m. after a hotel guest reported a disturbance.
The guest reported that a man from another room was pounding on doors and making death threats.
Investigators believed the man matched Vouk’s description and knew he had been staying in that room.
Dispatch was also speaking with Vouk by phone, according to the complaint.
The complaint says dispatch tracked his location northbound on State Highway 371.
Vouk allegedly told dispatch he wanted to speak with the county attorney.
He also allegedly threatened to kill someone if that did not happen.
Vouk later stopped at the Track Stop Gas station in Brainerd.
The complaint says he threatened to ram vehicles if officers arrived.
Arrest Follows at Brainerd Gas Station
Officers found Vouk inside the gas station and tried to detain him.
The complaint says officers wanted to search him for weapons because of the reported threats.
Vouk allegedly pulled away as officers tried to handcuff him.
A struggle followed, and officers eventually placed him in handcuffs.
Police reported bloodshot, watery eyes and an odor of alcohol during the arrest.
Vouk was taken to a hospital after the incident.
A judge later approved a warrant for a blood or urine sample.
The supplied complaint does not include laboratory results from that testing.
Three Charges Filed
Prosecutors charged Vouk with felony threats of violence.
That count carries up to five years in prison and a possible $10,000 fine.
He also faces gross misdemeanor obstruction of legal process.
That count carries up to 364 days in jail and a possible $3,000 fine.
The third count alleges misdemeanor driving while impaired by alcohol.
That charge carries up to 90 days in jail and a possible $1,000 fine.
