Roseau, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — Cody Jerome Olson faces a felony motor vehicle theft charge in Roseau County District Court.
The charge follows the reported theft of a water truck from a Roseau trucking company on September 6, 2026.
According to the complaint, the truck was later returned to the company’s parking lot.
Prosecutors accuse Olson of taking or driving the truck without the owner’s consent.
Water Truck Reported Stolen and Returned
Police responded to R&Q Trucking around 11:15 a.m. after the company reported the truck had been returned.
An employee showed police where the water truck had been parked.
The driver’s door was left open, and the key remained in the ignition.
The employee did not believe anything was missing from inside the truck.
Company surveillance showed a gray GMC Sierra arriving at the lot around 7:51 a.m.
The Sierra parked next to a yellow truck, according to the complaint.
The water truck was then seen leaving the property westbound.
Surveillance later showed the water truck returning at about 11 a.m.
Investigators Focus on Olson
The owner told investigators he suspected Cody Jerome Olson.
The complaint says Olson had previously stolen the same water truck in 2021.
Investigators obtained information about Olson’s pickup and compared it with surveillance footage.
City surveillance also showed a gray GMC Sierra traveling on Center Street West that morning.
The complaint says Olson had an active Department of Corrections warrant at the time.
Law enforcement issued an alert asking officers to watch for Olson in the area.
Olson Found Later That Night
Olson was located at a Circle K in Roseau at about 10:57 p.m.
Authorities also found the gray 2008 GMC Sierra registered to Olson.
The complaint says the vehicle matched the pickup shown in trucking company surveillance.
Olson was arrested on the outstanding warrant.
Investigators later reviewed additional surveillance from R&Q Trucking.
The complaint says video appeared to show Olson driving the water truck when it was returned.
Investigators also reported that the driver’s clothing appeared to match Olson’s clothing during his arrest.
Felony Theft Charge Filed
Olson is charged with felony theft of a motor vehicle.
The charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
It also carries a possible fine of up to $20,000.
The complaint lists a 2021 felony motor vehicle theft conviction involving Olson.
