Grand Forks Man Held on $1M Bond in Car Attack

Grand Forks (trfnews.i234.me) — A $1 million bond has been set for Ian Schneeweis.

The 26-year-old Grand Forks man faces three counts of attempted murder and several other charges.

The charges follow a September 23 incident involving pedestrians and a vehicle in Grand Forks.

Authorities allege Schneeweis used his 2007 Honda Accord to strike two pedestrians during the incident.

A third pedestrian was also targeted but escaped without being struck, according to court records.

Schneeweis Faces 12 Criminal Charges

Schneeweis now faces 12 charges in Grand Forks County District Court.

They include three counts of attempted murder and two counts of criminal vehicular injury.

He also faces reckless endangerment, terrorizing, criminal mischief and preventing arrest charges.

Other charges include misdemeanor allegations involving a controlled substance.

The charges are connected to events near the 1600 block of South 16th Street.

One man told investigators he was standing on a sidewalk outside his apartment.

He reportedly saw a gray sedan enter the parking area at high speed.

The vehicle later returned and drove toward him, according to the court affidavit.

The man suffered a brain bleed, fractured facial bone and other injuries.

A woman walking her dog was also struck during the incident.

Court records say she suffered a broken leg and significant bruising.

Another woman ran after seeing the vehicle approach her.

The vehicle instead struck a tree, according to investigators.

Authorities said Schneeweis left the area on foot following the crashes.

He was taken into custody a short distance from the scene.

Schneeweis was first taken to Altru Health System for evaluation.

He was later booked into the Grand Forks Correctional Center.

Court records allege Schneeweis admitted using methamphetamine earlier that day.

Investigators also documented statements Schneeweis allegedly made after his arrest.
