Thief River Falls Man Charged in Main Avenue Assault

Thief River Falls (trfnews.i234.me) — A Thief River Falls man faces two assault charges after a July incident downtown.

Kaleb Isaac Torgerson, 32, has been charged with felony third-degree assault.

He also faces a misdemeanor fifth-degree assault charge.

The criminal complaint was filed September 18.

The charges stem from an incident reported July 12.

Police responded to the 300 block of Main Avenue North.

Video Allegedly Shows Assault

According to the complaint, surveillance video allegedly showed Torgerson slamming a man to the ground.

Bystanders then approached the area.

The complaint says Torgerson briefly walked away before returning.

He allegedly confronted a male bystander and punched him.

The bystander then fell to the ground, according to the complaint.

Other people in the area reportedly pushed Torgerson away.

The bystander told investigators he had not physically confronted Torgerson before being struck.

The bystander said his head was bleeding after the incident.

He also reported being knocked unconscious.

Medical records reportedly showed he was unconscious for about two minutes.

The man later went to the hospital twice for treatment.

He also provided police with a photograph of an abrasion on his head.

The complaint says Torgerson had earlier tried recording the bystander.

He also asked the man for his name, according to witnesses.

A second person told investigators Torgerson later tried contacting the injured bystander.

According to the complaint, Torgerson said he owed the man an apology.

He also allegedly said he wanted to give the bystander $2,000.

The case will proceed through the Minnesota court system.

Torgerson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
