Wyndmere Family Escapes House Fire With Baby
Wyndmere (trfnews.i234.me) — A family, newborn baby and several pets escaped safely after a house fire Thursday evening.
The fire was reported shortly before 7 p.m. at 432 4th Street in Wyndmere.
Richland County Communications received the call after flames were seen at the home.
Crews from the Wyndmere Fire Department and Wyndmere Ambulance responded to the scene.
Everyone had already made it outside by the time emergency crews arrived.
Baby and Homeowner Checked by Ambulance Crew
No injuries were reported in the fire.
The homeowner and newborn baby were evaluated by ambulance crews as a precaution.
Three dogs and a cat also escaped the home safely.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Office said the fire likely began inside the attached garage.
Investigators believe the fire started around 6:43 p.m.
The garage door opener may have been connected to the fire, according to the preliminary investigation.
The homeowner told deputies they were unsure what exactly caused the flames.
Dogs Alert Family to Smoke
The homeowner and baby were sitting in the living room when the fire started.
The family’s dogs began growling after smoke started drifting in from the garage.
The unusual behavior drew the homeowner’s attention to the developing fire.
The homeowner then called 911 and got everyone out of the house.
The quick warning helped the family escape before conditions became more dangerous.
Emergency Crews Respond
Wyndmere Fire Department crews worked at the scene Thursday evening.
Wyndmere Ambulance also responded and checked the homeowner and baby.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the response and investigation.
Officials did not report any injuries to firefighters, deputies or other emergency workers.
No official damage estimate was included in the initial report.
The investigation into the exact cause of the fire remains ongoing.
