Moorhead Man Charged After Knife Attack on Roommate

Moorhead, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — Ignacio Gonzalez, 35, faces felony charges after an alleged knife attack on his roommate.

A criminal complaint was filed in Clay County District Court.

Gonzalez is charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

He also faces a felony threats of violence charge and misdemeanor domestic assault.

Court records say the incident happened September 19 at a Moorhead apartment.

Released From Jail Earlier That Day

According to the complaint, Gonzalez and his roommate had lived together for about two months.

Gonzalez was released from the Cass County Jail earlier that day.

After returning to the apartment, Gonzalez began drinking, the roommate told investigators.

The roommate said he stayed in his bedroom to avoid contact with Gonzalez.

Investigators said Gonzalez continued drinking throughout the day.

The complaint says Gonzalez later began banging on the roommate’s bedroom door.

When the roommate opened the door, Gonzalez entered and started yelling, according to police.

The roommate said Gonzalez then kicked a door that struck him in the head.

The impact caused the roommate to bleed, according to the complaint.

Police said Gonzalez then displayed a six-inch serrated knife.

The roommate reported that Gonzalez threatened to kill him while holding the knife.

The roommate fled the apartment and tried to escape, according to the complaint.

Police said Gonzalez chased him while still holding the knife.

The roommate eventually got away and found someone who could help.

Police were then called to the apartment.

Officers located Gonzalez at the Moorhead apartment.

The complaint says a SWAT team assisted officers in taking him into custody.

Gonzalez was taken to the Clay County Jail following his arrest.

He remained in custody when the case was reported.

The charges against Gonzalez remain pending in Clay County District Court.

No conviction has been entered in the case.
