Richard Urvand was born March 19, 1947 in the McVille Community Hospital, and passed away September 28, 2024 at Bethany Retirement Center, Fargo, ND, at the age of 77. He graduated from McVille High School in 1965, and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966, serving his country for 2 years, one of which was spent in Vietnam. He was an infantry soldier, standing guard at daylight and moving with recon at night. He came back home to McVille to his full-time job at Nelson County Highway Department, retiring in November of 2013 as Superintendent of Roads. He was very active in the community, serving on the McVille City Council, Sheyenne Lutheran Church Council, and McVille Tree Committee, just to name a few. In his spare time you could find him working in his yard or in his garage, working on his classic cars. A life well lived and cherished by all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Dianne; daughter, Tricia Hoyt (Clayton); son, Lynn Urvand (Allison); 2 grandsons, Cameron Hoyt (Kamree) and Collin Hoyt (Natalie); one brother, Mark Urvand (Bev); and several nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth & Lester Urvand; brother, Larry & his wife Lorraine Urvand; sister-in-law, Denise Urvand; baby sister, Patricia Urvand; his in-laws, Johny & Odella Olson; sisters-in-law, Mary Louise Olson, Joyce (Orvin) Aaser, and Roberta (Mike) Baumann.
The Funeral Service will be held at the McVille Lutheran Church, McVille, ND, on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Sheyenne Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Pekin, ND. Visitation will be held at the Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home of McVille on Friday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will continue at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service.
