NDSU Soccer Tops Kansas City 1-0

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – North Dakota State soccer picked up a 1-0 victory over Kansas City on Sunday afternoon in Summit League play at Durwood Soccer Stadium.

The Bison (5-4-3, 1-0-1 Summit League) took the lead in the second half, as Hannah Arnold scored her second career goal as she knocked in a rebound from close range in the 56th minute. Arnold, who scored last week’s game winner against Saint Ambrose, picked up her second game winner in as many weeks.

Morgan Russmann forced a turnover at the edge of the Kansas City (6-3-3, 0-2-0 Summit League) penalty area and then fired a shot to the far side of the goal. Maddie Sibbing stopped the effort, but the rebound went straight to Arnold, who tapped it in for the game’s only goal.

The Bison outnumbered Kansas City 11-7 in shots. The Roos had just one shot on goal, which came in the 73rd minute and was stopped by Payton Mulberry. It is the fourth cleansheet of the season for Mulberry and sixth for NDSU, matching the team total from last season.

NDSU secured an undefeated opening weekend in Summit League play, earning four points, including the win over Kansas City and the 1-1 tie against Omaha on Thursday. NDSU sits in a three-way tie for first with Denver and Oral Roberts.

The Bison return to action next Sunday, traveling north on I-29 to take on in-state rival North Dakota in the only game of the week for NDSU. Kickoff against the Fighting Hawks is set for 1 p.m. at Bronson Field on October 6.
