Roseau Man Faces Felony DWI, Meth Charges

Roseau (trfnews.i234.me) — Cody Jerome Olson faces two felony charges following a September 6 incident in Roseau.

Olson is charged with felony DWI and fifth-degree controlled substance possession.

He also faces a gross misdemeanor charge for violating restrictions on his driver’s license.

The case is filed in Roseau County District Court.

Authorities Locate Olson At Circle K

According to the complaint, Olson had an active Department of Corrections warrant on September 3.

Authorities later located his GMC Sierra at a Circle K convenience store in Roseau.

The pickup’s headlights and taillights were on when officers arrived around 10:57 p.m.

Olson was found inside the store with the vehicle keys, according to the complaint.

Investigators say a bag containing suspected methamphetamine was found inside Olson’s shirt pocket.

The complaint says Olson also repeatedly moved his jaw while speaking with officers.

Authorities described that behavior as consistent with controlled substance use.

Because Olson had an active warrant, he was taken into custody.

Surveillance Video Shows Vehicle Arrive

Investigators later reviewed surveillance video from the Circle K.

The footage allegedly showed Olson’s pickup arriving around 10:54 p.m.

The driver then exited the truck and walked into the store.

The complaint says no other occupants were seen inside the vehicle.

Authorities say the suspected methamphetamine weighed approximately .89 grams.

A field test allegedly returned a positive result for methamphetamine.

Urine Test Returns Positive Results

Authorities obtained a search warrant for a blood or urine sample.

Olson provided a urine sample shortly after midnight on September 7.

The complaint says the sample tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamines, and bupropion.

Prosecutors also allege Olson violated a restriction on his driver’s license.

The restriction prohibits driving after using alcohol or controlled substances.

Three Prior DWI Convictions Cited

The complaint lists three prior DWI convictions within the last ten years.

Those convictions occurred in 2017 and twice in 2022.

Prosecutors cite those prior convictions as aggravating factors supporting the felony DWI charge.

The complaint also lists a 2021 felony motor vehicle theft conviction.

The felony DWI count carries up to seven years in prison.

It also carries a possible fine of up to $14,000.

The meth possession charge carries up to five years and a possible $10,000 fine.

The license restriction charge carries up to 364 days and a possible $3,000 fine.

The complaint labels Count One as alcohol-related DWI.

However, its charge description alleges impairment by a controlled substance.
